About Steeped News

Same news, three angles: what Left, Center, and Right outlets are leading with right now, lined up side by side.

Steeped News is a daily news site that shows the same story as covered by Left, Center, and Right outlets, side by side. It is for readers who want that spread instead of one outlet's take. Steeped News is not a Left, Center, or Right outlet itself. It lines up reporting from those outlets so you can compare the coverage. It is not the Substack called steeped.

What balanced news means on Steeped

I built Steeped because nobody should have to keep five news tabs open just to figure out what actually happened today. The site pulls the latest stories from outlets across the political spectrum and sorts them into three columns, Left Ground, Middle Ground, and Right Ground, so you can see at a glance which stories each side is covering and how they frame them.

Steeped is built and run by Kriss Phoha. There are no ads and no personalized feed: every reader sees the same headlines, ranked by how recently they were published.

The Homebrew

The Homebrew is drafted each day by Steeped's AI newsroom from the biggest headlines across all three columns, and it cites every source it draws on. A brief is published only after Steeped's fact check and legal review clear it, and it is credited to Kriss only on days he personally reviews it. Briefs he hasn't reviewed carry the byline Steeped News. The Homebrew doesn't use Anthropic's Claude. Summaries can still get facts wrong, so each brief links to the original reporting. Every past brief is in the Homebrew archive, and there's an Atom feed if you'd like it in your reader.

Frequently asked questions

Who writes the Homebrew?

The Homebrew is drafted by Steeped's own AI newsroom: xAI's Grok, writing as NewsRoom. Every claim is cited to a real article, and a brief isn't published until Steeped's fact check and legal review clear it. It's credited to Kriss only on days he personally reviews it; otherwise the byline is Steeped News. It does not use Anthropic's Claude.

Markets and the PHOHA indicator

The Economy & Markets page carries a live board of major indexes, index futures, the largest US stocks, ETFs, crypto, forex, and commodities, with a news wire tagged to the markets each headline mentions. Each market also gets a reading from the PHOHA indicator, Steeped's own 0 to 100 measure of how it's trading. It's descriptive, not a forecast, and not investment advice.
